6 short films. 1 awesome Pop Up festival.

Yesterday, on what could have been another random Wednesday night, I discovered an absolutely genius form of Film Festival. It's name is Future Shorts Film Festival. Because, as it's name suggests, this is the Future of Film Festivals.

Unlike any other festivals, this one is a Pop up film festival. It is coordinated in the headquarters at London, but is organized and hosted by local people in over 300 cities around the world. Screenings have taken place across a massive network of music halls, cinemas, theaters, galleries, clubs, bars and warehouses.

As they clearly explain "Future Shorts celebrates the best and most innovative short films, connecting global stories with global audiences".

This idea allows more film lovers to come together and experience a showcase of best short films from around the world, without the geographical limitation that other festivals impose. It is in essence, the globalization of film festivals.

San Francisco edition was hosted at the wonderful Firehouse 8. A very original old building at the Russian Hill Neighborhood, that after being abandoned for 30 years, it has been remodeled and turned into an awesome event space, that also offers well curated art and food for sale.

The films shown at yesterday's event were part of the winter selection. Each season they bring another set of shorts that will be shown all around the world. I highly recommend following this people online (http://futureshorts.com) and finding the closest one to you.

Here's the list of the short films shown yesterday:

That I'm Falling (France-2013)
Out of Reach (Poland-2011)
Blind Spot (France-2007)
Rabbit Land (Serbia-2012)
The Date (Finland-2012)
Buzkashi Boys (Afganistan-2011)

All of them very much worth watching, although I'd personally recommend Blind Spot and The Date. Wonderfully structured, excellent ideas and lots of good dark humor.

But, after all, I guess my humor was too dark for the crowd, whom, at the end of the night, chose Buzkashi Boys and Blind Spot above The Date  as the big favorites among them all.

Here's Blind Spot. Enjoy:
