5 reasons why The Wind Rises is more than just another animate

Most people in the western world see animated films as merely for kids. We don't really think of going to the movie theaters to watch a cartoon, unless we have a kid or we are one of those very weird adults, who most people call immature, that enjoy watching cartoons after 35 years old.

Sadly, that is a reality in our society. And I say sadly because animates are a very unique form of art that most people around us regard as childish and not really worth appreciating. But the fact is that several of the brilliant entrepreneurs and thinkers of our times have been big fans and pioneers in the creation and expansion of this type of art. (Steve Jobs, Walt Disney, Steven Spielberg, Paul Allen, etc.)

Even though I know most you are the exception (you are immature adults who appreciate animates and refuse to ever get old and boring) I find it necessary to make that point and have people like my mom feel guilty for not watching enough animates.

Now that I've made my point, let's thank Mr. Hayao Miyazaki one more time and probably last (he said he might be retiring after this film), and begin to enumerate why The Wind Rises should be in all of us' watching list.

1) This film is the essence of the aesthetically beautiful. All the figures, the colors, the landscapes, the shapes are a moving masterpiece. Think about the most beautiful watercolor painting you have ever seen taking life. (This is a usual for Miyazaki's films)

2) It is an entrepreneurship lesson. This film will take you through the life of Jiro Horikoshi, one of the biggest pioneers in Japanese aeronautical engineering. It shows how determination, discipline, conviction and big dreams are the keys to succeed and disrupt an entire industry.

3) The music is perfect. For those who know the importance of music in films and enjoy finding soundtracks, please pay attention to the music in this one. It made a huge impact in the quality of the film.

4) It is an extremely entertaining history class. The whole movie takes you through the history of Japan in the first half of the 20th century. You can appreciate the technological revolution of Japan. How this country went from being very a poor -technology imitating country, to a developed and worldwide technology pioneer.

5) The love story. Besides being a very entertaining aviation centered story, this film brings a very emotional and heart touching love story. It shows us the difficulties of relationships in such times but equally remarks the importance of love as a driving force in every sense.

I guess this movie captured my heart and will stay in my head for a long time. I really hope you enjoy it as much as I did and reaffirms the joy and importance of this form of art.
